Slitter geometry
Problem case
Depending on the application the edge geometry of the upper knife has an influence on the durability, cutting quality, safety and the risk of breakings.
Problem 1:
Breaks on the knife edge, especially with carbide metal knives
Problem 2:
Bad cutting quality
Problem 3:
Risk of injury on slitters
Solution
Solution to problem 1:
- If there is a risk of breaking a secondary bevel or chamferless circular knife will help
- Use powder metallurgical steel instead of carbide steel
- Check the stability of the knife holder
Solution to problem 2:
- Knives are dull – change knives
- Material of used knives
- Cutting point is incorrect
- Overlap is too high
- Overspeed is too low
- No or low cant angle
Solution to problem 3:
- Chamferless slitters offering the advantage of a much reduced injury risk and doubled durability through both sided usage
